Restored Kohn bentwood stool with Viennese wickerwork, ca. 1900
Original Kohn bentwood stool with Viennese wickerwork from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century by the company J.&J. Kohn, Austria. The stool is made of bent beechwood and has a second bentwood ring underneath the seat for stability. This construction principle was developed by Michael Thonet and used in many of his chairs and stools. The Kohn company was Thonet's direct competitor at the time - company stamp under the seat - see picture. The stool is in very good restored condition: all screws are tight, the shellac surfaces have been renewed and the hand-woven Viennese wickerwork has been professionally replaced.
