Restored swivel stool No. 1 from the long-established Gebrüder Thonet company in Vienna, dating from the late 19th century. The piano stool has a frame consisting of four steam-bent legs. The bent legs are held together by a bent wooden ring. The stool is heavy and very stable. Height is adjustable with a spindle from 52 cm to approximately 62 cm. The seat is made of so-called Viennese wickerwork, the other parts are made of solid beechwood. In this early model, the seat ring is still supported by bent, cross-shaped wooden supports; in later models, these were replaced with metal. The stool has the original Thonet stamp and the paper label under the seat.
Condition: The hand-woven weave was expertly restored in a Schwerin weaving workshop. The surfaces were refinished with shellac polish, although slight unevenness remains - see pictures. Unfortunately, the spindle is defective in the lower section and has been covered with a metal tube. The adjustment range is therefore reduced by this lower section. Minimum height is now 52 cm - no problem for a piano stool, although normal stools are 45-47 cm high.
Rare collector's item in good, usable condition.
