Original THONET bentwood stool, mid-20th century, beech
A light-colored bentwood stool by Thonet, from the mid-20th century, in beautiful, restored condition. The stool is made of bent beechwood and features a second bentwood ring beneath the seat for stability. This construction principle was developed by Michael Thonet and used in many of his chairs and stools. The seat is made of slightly bent plywood. The stool's surfaces are coated with shellac. The stool features the Thonet embossed stamp and paper label on the seat frame.
The stool is in good overall condition: all screws are tight, nothing wobbles, and the surfaces have been sanded and hand-varnished with shellac using the traditional Schelleck ball polish.
