Bentwood stool from the late 19th or early 20th century, made by the company Jacob & Josef Kohn (Austria-Hungary). Kohn was a competitor of Thonet, which temporarily merged with Thonet after World War I during the Great Depression. The piano stool is made of solid beechwood and has a bent plywood seat. The curved legs of the wide base are held together at the bottom by a wooden cross. The stool is very stable and its height can be adjusted from 46 cm to approximately 64 cm using a steel spindle. The spindle runs smoothly with minimal play. The stool is finished with black shellac, which is in some places heavily chipped. The stool bears the original Kohn stamp under the seat. A beautiful collector's item in good original condition with some signs of wear on the surfaces.
