Collector's item: Original Thonet piano stool No. 1 with beautiful patina and hand-woven Viennese caning from the late 19th century. A swivel stool from the traditional company Gebrüder Thonet, Vienna - Austria.
The piano stool is made of beechwood and has a frame with a bentwood ring. The curved legs are held together by the bentwood ring. The stool is heavy and very stable. Its height can be adjusted from 46 cm to approximately 60 cm using a long, smooth-running spindle. The seat is made of Viennese cane webbing, while the other parts are made of solid beechwood or metal. In this early model, the seat ring is supported by slightly curved wooden supports arranged in a cross shape; in later models, these were replaced with metal. Available in rosewood or medium walnut finish.
Condition: The surfaces have been partially sanded and refreshed with shellac polish. The stool bears the original Thonet embossed stamp under the seat. The hand-woven Viennese cane webbing is well intact, although it sags slightly – see photos. The stool otherwise shows typical signs of wear on the surfaces, but is in very good, usable condition overall.
