Antique bentwood chair by Jacob and Josef Kohn, Austria. The chair's design and quality are comparable to the Thonet Model No. 18. This chair, like the No. 14, was a bestseller for the company for decades and was frequently copied. This particular chair comes from the factory in Teschen and dates from around 1900 – see the stamp under the seat. The chair is made of beechwood, screwed together, and reinforced with a bentwood ring. The seat is made of embossed plywood.
The screws were checked and tightened where necessary. The chair is of high-quality workmanship and in good, stable condition with typical signs of wear for its age. The front legs are slightly crooked – see photo. A (now barely legible) stamp bearing the inscription J&J Kohn, Teschen, is found on the underside of the seat frame.
